Homegoing celebration services for Sis. Gertude Tims Mayfield will be held Tuesday, Aug. 16, 11 a.m. at the King Solomon Baptist Church with Pastor Rodney Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Jenkins Community Cemetery.

Mrs. Getrude Mayfield was born April 26, 1923 to the late James Tims and the late Minnie Gaines Tims in Doyline.

She accepted Christ as her personal saviour at an early age and united with the Kirk Chapel Baptist Church. Mrs. Mayfield later in life joined the New Zion Baptist Church. On June 1, 2014, Sis. Gertrude Mayfield joined the King Solomon Baptist Church under the pastorage of the Rev. Rodney E. Williams.

Sis. Gertrude Mayfield was an anointed musician, choir director and soloist. She enjoyed using her God given gifts playing the piano and singing praises unto God. She was often called upon to participate in various church programs. Sis. Mayfield played for the Doyline/Princeton Male Chorus for over 20 years.

On Aug. 8, Gertrude Tims Mayfield answers the call of her heavenly Father and joined the celestial choir of the saints. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Levi Dickey and Matthew Mayfield; siblings: Augusta Tims, Myrtle Tims, Laura Tims, Lydia Mumford; stepson, Billy Ashley Dickey; and stepdaughters, Cora Siah and Vesteen Frazier.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her two daughters, Celesta Paul (Royal) of Portland, OR and Vanessa Mayfield of Doyline; one granddaughter, Endea Hicks (Christopher) of Shreveport; two great-granddaughters, Kenade Judgeware and Kenzley Hicks; two brothers, J. T. Tims (Gloria) of Portland, OR and Earl Tims Sr. (Hazel); godchildren: Patricia Stanley, Dearrous Amos, Daudi Ward, Chantrell Johnson, and Felicia Richardson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Monday, Aug. 15 in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Services are entrusted to Kennon’s Mortuary. Email condolences may be sent to [email protected].
