Glenbrook Apaches wrap up successful season

by Minden Press-Herald

The Glenbrook Lady Apaches traveled to Batesville, Miss. to take part in the AA North State softball tournament hosted by North Delta Academy.

The Lady Apaches needed to win two games in order to be one of the four teams that advance to the state tournament next week.

Glenbrook fought their hearts out but gave up one game short of their goal of playing at State.

In Glenbrook’s opening game they were the underdog against the number two ranked team in Class AA.

Someone forgot to tell the Lady Apaches though, because they went on to win that game 7-4 over second ranked, Leake Academy.

“That was a huge, huge win for us and this school,” head coach Jonathan Hardy said. “Those girls learned they can beat anyone and that will benefit this program going forward.”

Two seniors led the effort in the win, with Gracyn Gorman and Jessica Mangrum both getting clutch two-run doubles during a six run Glenbrook rally in the sixth inning.

Alyssa Martin went 1-4 with a RBI double in the game, Megan Sims had a RBI single and Katie Kidd added a single.
Senior Jessica Mangrum was the winning pitcher in arguably Glenbrook’s biggest softball win ever.

The Lady Apaches would be shut out in their next two games finishing fifth, one spot outside of the state tournament.

These girls played hard all season long and should be proud of their effort and contributions to Glenbrook softball.
