The Minden Crimson Tide returns home Friday for a match up with longtime foe, Woodlawn.
The Tide is coming off a 42-14 loss to Haughton, and the team is hungry to right the ship and start off 1-0 in district play.
Head coach Spencer Heard hopes being at home can fuel the Tide past the Knights.
“We’re glad to be back home,” Heard said. “It should be a big crowd and the boys are excited about the game.”
Woodlawn comes into this game with a vaunted defensive line, led by big-time recruit T.D. Moton. Moton is currently committed to Alabama.
“I told our guys if you want a challenge, there it is,” Heard said.
Despite facing a stout defensive line, offensively the Tide isn’t changing its approach.
“We’re going to run the ball still,” Heard said. “Like with any game you have to let the way the game is going after a few series dictate your play-call. Last week against Haughton there came a point when we had to start throwing it. We feel we can run it or throw it.”
This game marks the beginning of district play for Minden, and the Crimson Tide would like to get off to a fast start.
To do so they need to eliminate the mistakes that have plagued them in crucial moments.
“When you look at the film from last week we did a lot of things right,” Heard said. “If not for one or two key mistakes, we’re right in that game. We have to do better in those spots this week.”
In front of a home crowd and with a few games under their belt, Heard believes the Tide has a big advantage this week.
“We’re excited about this game,” Heard said. “We anticipate that we’ll play well Friday. “
