Home going services for Mrs. Gradie White Ward, 84, will be at noon, Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Zion Hill B.C. , located at 118 Pilgrim Rest Road in Doyline. The Rev. J. J. Jones will officiate. Interment will follow at the Jenkins Community Cemetery Doyline.

Mrs. Gradie Mae White Ward was born on May 14, 1931, to Luther and Odessa White. She graduated from Webster High School in Minden.

Mrs. Ward married Louis D. Ward Sr. and nine children were born to this union. The youngest, Luther James, was deceased shortly after birth.

She confessed Christ at an early age. She joined the Zion Hill Baptist Church where she served her church while also working with a number of other churches and church-affiliated organizations. She remained a faithful member at Zion Hill until her health failed.

She worked diligently for the Webster Parish School’s food services as cafeteria manager at Union Elementary School until she retired in 1992.

Mrs. Ward’s character could be best described as witty, kind-hearted, caring, lovable, intelligent and knowledgeable. She believed in the idea of being your brother’s keeper. She was blessed with a God-given gift in the help ministry, sacrificing herself and her time to others in need continuously.

She leaves to cherish her memories eight children: Dorothy Peoples, Doris Ward, Grace Boyd (Osvell), Thelma Ward, Sybil Myers, Louis Ward Jr. (Adriane), Stella Jacobs (Carlton), Mattie Ward. One brother: Leroy White. Four sisters: Linda Owens, Glinda Archie, Tammy Smith, and Pamela Gilbert. One aunt: Lillie Mae Bailey. Fifteen Grandchildren: Carla Ward, Angela Bryant (Jerome), Anthony Boyd, Ebony Henderson, TImothy Ward, Sr. (Lucinda), D’Metrus Myers, Krystal Lewis (Aundra), Gerome Henderson, Enrique Montoya (Jamie), Daudi Ward (Nikki), Marvin Ward (Jennine), Danaya Bryant (Brian), Arthur Myers, Robert Myers, Carlin Jacob, Grianne Ward, and Louis Ward III: thirty-three great-grandchildren, four god daughters: Debra Anderson, Vera Green, Bammer Fuller, and Thelma Johnson. A host of nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.
