Grassroots challenger Matt Gromlich requalifies to take on Speaker Mike Johnson in Louisiana’s District 4

by Minden Press-Herald

SHREVEPORT, LA – Aug 7, 2026 – Dr. Matt Gromlich has officially requalified as a candidate for Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District, setting the stage for his challenge to incumbent Speaker of the House Mike Johnson this November.

An educator, researcher, and problem solver, Gromlich serves as a professor at Louisiana State University Shreveport (LSUS). Holding a doctorate and a lifelong commitment to education, he says his campaign is built on listening to communities, bringing people together, and developing practical solutions for the challenges facing northwest Louisiana.

Rather than paying a qualifying fee, Gromlich earned his place on the ballot by qualifying through a voter signature petition, underscoring the grassroots foundation of his campaign.

“From the very beginning, this campaign has been about the people of District 4,” Gromlich said. “Over the past several months, I’ve traveled throughout all 15 parishes, meeting with families, educators, veterans, small business owners, and community leaders. Every conversation reminds me that people are looking for leadership that listens, works together, and puts Louisiana first.”

Those conversations have fueled a rapidly growing grassroots movement. More than 100 volunteers from across the district have joined the campaign, organizing neighborhood events, making phone calls, writing letters, knocking on doors, and connecting with voters in every corner of the district.

“Matt isn’t running a campaign built around political insiders or party politics,” said Jenni McCarty, Volunteer Director for Matt Gromlich for Congress. “He’s building relationships by showing up, listening, and treating people with respect, even when they don’t agree on every issue. That’s why I stepped up to lead our volunteer program. I’ve watched people from every walk of life come together because they believe Louisiana deserves leaders who will listen first. The energy behind this campaign is real, and it’s growing every day.”

Gromlich’s campaign is focused on building a stronger Louisiana by expanding economic opportunity, strengthening public education, investing in infrastructure, supporting veterans and military families, and protecting individual freedoms.
