Funeral services for Mrs. Gwendolyn Munn Cox “Granny”, age 97, of Shongaloo, LA, will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charles Garner officiating. Interment will follow in Old Shongaloo Cemetery, Shongaloo, LA under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2023, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Bailey Funeral Home, Springhill.

Mrs. Cox was born on March 12, 1925 to Rev. John Lewis and Maude Munn in Shongaloo, LA and passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022 in Minden, LA. She was a lifelong resident of Shongaloo, a homemaker, a faithful member of Mt. Paran Baptist Church, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She loved the farm at “Munn Hill” and was known for her decorations, the 1965 Chevrolet that she drove wearing her white gloves, and her white dresses.

She is survived by her grandson, Shane Cox and wife, Amy of Homer, LA; three great-grandchildren, Carrie Williams and husband, Josh of Athens, LA, Matthew Driskill of Ruston, Carl Driskill, Jr. of Simsboro, LA; and great great-granddaughter, Athena Williams of Athens, LA.

Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 74 years, Urel Cox; son, Claude Lewis Cox; and two sisters.

Pallbearers will be: Donnie Morgan, Pepper Branton, Charles Slack, Chris Jones, Henery Burns, Scott Mouser, A.J. “June Bug” Burns, and Troy Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be: Tulley Moore, William Strange, Champ Branton, Johnny Benefield, Ronnie Lennard, and Paul Dean

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude and the Wounded Warrior Project.
