High school baseball: Jackson’s homer, Smith’s gem lift Minden to victory

The Minden Crimson Tide bounced back with a 4-2 victory over Family Community Friday night at Griffith Stadium.

The Tide were coming off a loss to Northwood in their District 1-4A opener Thursday night.

Elsewhere, Lakeside dropped both halves of a District 1-2A doubleheader against Calvary Baptist 8-2 and 9-6 at home.

At Minden, the game was tied at 2 going into the bottom of the seventh. Jakobe Jackson smacked a two-run home run with one out to give the Tide the victory.

Pitcher Jaxon Smith led off Minden’s half of the seventh with a walk.

Smith pitched a three-hitter. He allowed one earned run, struck out eight and walked none.

Minden had five hits. Brody Bower hit a two-run double with one out in the third. That followed a double by Landon Brewer and a walk by Parker Salas.

Minden (15-7) is scheduled to resume district play Monday at Bossier at 4 p.m.

At Lakeside, the Warriors had five hits in the first game. They trailed 3-1 after four innings and the Cavaliers added three in the fifth.

Calvary’s Judson Funderburk pitched a complete game. He struck out 13 and walked one.

In the second game, Lakeside cut a 9-2 Cavs lead to 9-6 with four runs in the bottom of the sixth after Calvary scored four in the top of the inning. But the Warriors could get no closer.

Hunter Sutton went 4-for-4. Jon Jon Dick had a double.

Calvary improved to 17-8 overall and 5-1 in district. Lakeside, which won the first game in the three-game series 7-4 Thursday, dropped to 11-11 and 4-5.

The Warriors are scheduled to host North Webster Tuesday at 6.
