High school baseball: Lakeside, North Webster win; Glenbrook drops heartbreaker to North DeSoto

The Lakeside Warriors completed a two-game District 3-2A sweep of Winnfield with a 6-1 victory at Lakeside Thursday.

Elsewhere, North DeSoto defeated Richwood 19-0 at North Webster, and Glenbrook dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to defending non-select Division II champion North DeSoto 4-3 in eight innings at Glenbrook.

At Lakeside, the Warriors had seven hits. Drake Chreene went 3-for-3. Brock Case hit a solo home run. Jake Glass had two RBI.

Gage Williams scattered six hits, struck out five and walked three in six innings. Mason Shipp pitched a scoreless seventh.

Lakeside (12-20, 5-3) visits Natchitoches Central Friday at 5. Winnfield dropped to 7-21 and 3-5.

At North Webster, the Knights had six hits and took advantage of 11 walks In the two-inning game.

Braylon Bernard went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Preston Ingle went 2-for-2. Tyler Brown had a triple.

Brown and Kolby Dinkins combined for five strikeouts.

North Webster improved to 10-15. The Knights close the season Friday at Zwolle at 6.

The Glenbrook-North DeSoto game matched district champions. Glenbrook won 1-1A and North DeSoto won 1-4A.

The Griffins took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Apaches tied it in the second then took a 3-2 lead in the third on Carson Whitehead’s steal of home.

North DeSoto tied it on Christian Ashworth’s leadoff home run in the sixth.The Griffins took the lead in the top of the eighth on a one-out single by Miller Warren.

Kleaton Davis led off the bottom of the eighth with a single but the Apaches were unable to rally.

Glenbrook’s Brayden Watkins pitched another outstanding game. He allowed three hits, struck out 11 and walked two in seven innings.

Glenbrook dropped to 16-14. North DeSoto, which entered the game No. 3 in the non-select Division II power rankings, improved to 24-7.
