High school baseball: Lakeside rolls into quarterfinals; Glenbrook opens playoffs Thursday; Doyline visits Quitman in second round

The No. 5 seed Lskeside Warriors cruised into the non-select Division IV quarterfinals with a 9-1 victory over No. 12 Logansport Wednesday at home.

Lakeside (16-14) will play the winner of Friday’s 6:30 p.m. game between No. 4 DeQuincy (17-9) and No. 20 Delcambre (9-18) next week.

Lakeside starter Hunter Sutton pitched a strong six innings. He allowed just two hits, struck out six and walked only one.

Seven Warriors combined for 10 hits. Jon Jon Dick went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Matthew Aguilera went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Peyton Gray went 2-for-4. Jordan Isbell, who pitched the final inning, had a double.

Logansport (13-14) scored a run the top of the first. Lakeside answered quickly with three in the bottom of the inning.

Gray singled with one out and Dick was hit by a pitch. Gray moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a groundout by Aguilera.

Sutton was hit by a pitch. Dick scored on a passed ball. Sutton stole second and advanced to third on the passed ball. Noah Redding, running for Sutton, scored on a single by Eli Campbell.

The Warriors added one in the second on an RBI-double by Dick then put four more on the board in the fourth. Gray, Dick and Aguilera had consecutive singles in the fourth. A sacrifice fly by Sutton scored the Warriors’ eighth run of the game.

Lakeside’s last run in the fifth came on an error.

Elsewhere, the No. 11 seed Glenbrook Apaches (13-10) open the select Division IV playoffs Thursday on the road in a select Division IV second-round game against No. 6 St. John (22-10) at 5 p.m. Both teams received first-round byes.

Also Thursday, No. 12 Doyline (14-13) visits No. 5 Quitman in a non-select Division V second-round game at 6. Doyline defeated No. 21 Ebarb in the first round. Quitman (15-10) had a first-round bye.

Minden (23-9), the No. 14 seed, is scheduled to play Game 1 of its best-of-3 second-round non-select Division II series at No. 3 Brusly (23-6) Friday at 6. Game 2 is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. Game 3, if necessary, is scheduled to follow at 2.
