High school baseball: Minden downs Doyline

The Minden Crimson Tide defeated the Doyline Panthers 5-2 Saturday at Griffith Stadium.

Tide starter Landon Brewer allowed three hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out nine and walked three.

Doyline scored a run in the first. Dakota Stewart’s sacrifice bunt brought home Cayden Mingo, who had a one-out single.

Minden took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the third.

Brewer led off with a single. Bryson Ranger drew a walk with one out. Landyn Huddleston reached on an error, loading the bases.

Zander Roswell’s single scored two runs. Jaxon Smith then doubled, making it 3-1. An error resulted in the fourth run.

The Tide scored its final run in the bottom of the fifth. Brody Bower led off with a single, advanced to second on a groundout by Ranger and scored on a single by Huddleston.

The Panthers scored one in the top of the seventh. A hit-by-pitch, walk and single by Austin Arbaugh loaded the bases with two outs.

Mingo was hit by a pitch. Huddleston then came into pitch and induced a groundout to end the game.

Seven Minden players combined for eight hits. Bower went 2-for-4.

Minden (14-6) is scheduled to begin District 1-4A play Monday at Bossier at 5.

Doyline (7-9) is scheduled to begin a two-game District 1-B series against Castor Tuesday at 5 at Castor.
