The 33rd annual Car Giant of Minden Minden Holiday Classic gets underway Wednesday.
The tournament features 12 boys and 12 girls teams.
The Holiday Classic is one of the few bracket tournaments left instead of just a series ogmf games. Champions in the both divisions will decided Saturday.
Three gyms will be used over the first three days — Minden High, Webster Junior High and the Minden Recreation Center.
(Records are through Sunday)
Both host teams have a good chance of making it to the finals.
The Crimson Tide (6-2) open against North Webster (1-3) Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Minden gym.
The Lady Tiders (4-4) face Ringgold (3-4) at 6:40. The winners of both games advance to the semifinals of their respective divisions, which are Friday.
Ringgold (9-3), which won the Lakeside tournament, is Minden’s most likely semifinal opponent in the boys division.
Calvary Baptist (7-3), the 2023 select Division III runner-up, is in the other half of the bracket along with Gibsland-Coleman (7-5) and Class 5A Parkway (8-5).
Simsboro (12-4) and Richwood (6-7) are in Minden’s half of the girls bracket.
Arcadia (10-1), a non-select Division IV semifinalist last season, is in the other half of the bracket. The Lady Hornets face Loyola (3-6) Wednesday at 4 at Minden High with a spot in the semifinals on the line.
Gibsland-Coleman (5-6), which reached the non-select Division V quarterfinals last season, could face the winner for a spot in the title game.
The Lakeside boys and girls are also in the tournament.
