A late run lifted the Minden Crimson Tide past the Booker T. Washington Lions 59-56 Friday night at BTW.
The Tide trailed 53-48 with 3:15 left in the game. Minden then went on a 10-0 run to take a 58-53 lead with about a minute to play. The Tide forced two big turnovers during the stretch.
BTW hit a 3-pointer with 22.2 seconds left to get within two. The Tide missed two free throws with 20.6 seconds left, but Minden’s Markavious Johnson grabbed the rebound after the second one..
Cameron Parker was fouled with 15.4 seconds left. He made the first free throw and missed the second.
BTW had a chance to tie but the Tide prevented the Lions from getting a good look at a 3-pointer. BTW put up a desperation 3 with about 4 seconds left and it didn’t come close.
Minden (8-6) and BTW (6-6) are both in 1-4A but this was not a designated district game. The Tide hosts the Lions in the district matchup Feb. 3.
Minden led by as many as eight in the second quarter. But BTW tied it at 30 with a 3-pointer at the buzzer. The Tide led 43-41 after three quarters.
Johnson led the Tide with 23 points. Parker scored 18. Gerald Richardson added eight.
Brian French led the Lions with 17.
Minden hosts West Monroe Tuesday before opening 1-4A play at Woodlawn Friday.
Elsewhere, Glenbrook improved to 5-13 with a 53-47 victory over Downsville at Downsville. North Webster improved to 9-7 with a 46-44 victory over New Living Word at New Living Word.
Doyline opened District 1-B play with a 97-80 home loss to Quitman. The Panthers fell to 14-10. The Wolverines improved to 16-4.
Lakeside fell to Mansfield on the road.
