High school football: Mangrum helps Glenbrook rally past Cedar Creek

by Russell Hedges

Not long into Friday’s District 1-1A opener against Cedar Creek, the Glenbrook Apaches found themselves in a 10-0 hole.

A snap that went over the punter’s head resulted in a safety for the Cougars. Then they scored a touchdown after successfully executing an onside kick.

So how did the Apaches react? They proceeded to score 30 straight points en route to a 36-16 victory at home.

Glenbrook improved to 3-1 with its second straight win. Cedar Creek, which moved into District 1-1A this season, dropped to 0-4.

Glenbrook Head Coach Reagan Smith said the early deficit wasn’t cause for a lot of concern.

“We settled down, settled in and started playing our game and the rest was our night,” he said

Senior Seth Mangrum had a big night with his second straight game of more than 100 yards rushing. He gained 160 on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns.

“He’s just a real fiery kid,” Smith said.

The Apaches finished with 234 yards on the ground. Cade Vining had 68 on eight carries. He scored one touchdown.

Easton Sanders completed an efficient 7-of-11 passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns.

Ryan Reagan had a 9-yard touchdown catch. Darron Hollingsworth had two catches for 20 yards and a touchdown. Gage White led the team with three catches for 34 yards, involving a 20-yard reception.

Glenbrook continues District 1-1A play Friday at Plain Dealing. The Lions (0-4) lost to Haynesville 51-0 Friday night.
