High school golf: Minden’s McCormick qualifies for state tournament

Minden’s Jackson McCormick qualified for the Division II state tournament Wednesday with a 14th-place finish in the Region I-II tournament at Links on the Bayou in Alexandria.

McCormick shot a 4-over-76. Kane Hanks of St. Louis Catholic won with a 69.

The top four teams and top four individuals among teams that did not qualify will compete in the Division II tournament April 29-30 at Cane Row in New Iberia.

Minden finished fifth in the team standings.

McCormick was second among individual qualifiers. He shot a 4-over on the front nine that included a triple bogey 7 on the par-4th 9th.

McCormick finished strong with nine consecutive pars on the back nine. 

He finished tied for 18th in last year’s state tournament.

St. Louis Catholic won the tournament at 8 under. St. Thomas More was second at 5 under.
