A Minden man was arrested following a high-speed vehicle pursuit and foot chase through a residential neighborhood, according to police reports.
On April 3, an officer observed a vehicle traveling at an estimated 70 mph in a posted 35 mph zone near the intersection of Talton Street and Gilbert Street. The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield and continued at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle, described as a dark purple Dodge Challenger with a Texas license plate, traveled through multiple streets, including McMullen Street, Woods Street, and Durwood Street, at speeds estimated around 60 mph in a posted 25 mph zone. During the pursuit, the driver reportedly ran multiple stop signs and circled the block twice.
The vehicle eventually stopped in the 800 block of Durwood Street. The driver exited and fled on foot behind a nearby residence. Officers pursued the suspect and apprehended him in the backyard area of the residence as he attempted to jump a fence. A Taser was deployed, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect was identified as Tyler Hartwell, 33, of Minden. Hartwell was advised of his rights and secured in a patrol unit.
A search of the vehicle revealed an open bottle of Crown Royal Apple and an open container of Corona beer. Field sobriety tests were conducted, and Hartwell reportedly performed poorly. He refused to submit to a breath test.
Authorities determined Hartwell was driving under suspension due to prior offenses and was currently on probation. Probation and Parole officials requested a hold be placed on him.
Hartwell was charged with resisting an officer and fugitive charges related to probation and parole.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
