A Homer man was arrested after Minden police said he drove through several parking lots while apparently attempting to avoid a traffic stop and was later found with marijuana.
Montrell Frazier, 28, was arrested August 27 and booked into Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
According to the Minden Police Department report, an officer was patrolling Fort Street when he observed Frazier driving a 2014 Nissan Altima with what appeared to be an expired registration sticker.
Before the officer activated his emergency lights, Frazier reportedly turned into the Mike’s Liquor parking lot, exited the lot and entered the McDonald’s parking lot. He then re-entered the roadway and turned into the Dollar General parking lot, according to the report.
Frazier drove through the parking lot before exiting near Minden Athletics and was later located attempting to turn into the Shoe Dept. parking lot. The officer then initiated a traffic stop.
As the officer approached the vehicle, he reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside. Frazier allegedly attempted to exit the vehicle and was instructed to remain inside.
The officer reported seeing Frazier moving around inside the vehicle as if attempting to conceal something. Frazier was removed from the vehicle, handcuffed, and advised of his Miranda rights.
A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted based on the reported marijuana odor. During the investigation, officers observed Frazier attempting to place his hands inside his shorts. A clear bag containing approximately 5 grams of marijuana and cigars reportedly used to roll narcotics was found.
After being advised of his rights, Frazier reportedly told officers he concealed the marijuana because he was afraid and had previous negative encounters with law enforcement. He also reportedly said he noticed the officer approaching and hoped he would not be pulled over.
Police later learned Frazier had a suspended driver’s license and an active fugitive warrant through the Claiborne Parish Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle also did not have valid insurance and was towed.
Frazier was transported to the Minden Police Department for booking and later to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
He was booked on charges of driving under suspension, being a fugitive from the Claiborne Parish Sheriff’s Office, simple possession of marijuana, misdemeanor obstruction of justice, improper turn, expired registration, and drug paraphernalia.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
