by Minden Press-Herald

Hunger fighters still have time to register for the first Hunger Run, to be held Saturday.

“The response has been great,” Jessica Lewis, event organizer, said. “However, the number of registered participants isn’t quite where I’d hoped it to be. I’m praying people are waiting to sign up this week.”

Registration will be open until Friday and cost $25 or runners can register the morning of for $30 beginning at 7 a.m.
The festivities will be held at Joe LeBlanc Food Pantry, located at 814 Constable St.

The Kids Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m. and ‘Mr. Hunger Fighter’ will run with children. The 5k starts at 8:30, with timing to be monitored by Trinity Sports USA. Packet pickup is Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the food pantry.

“This race is a bit unique in that runners will have the option to stop at water stations along the route and pickup dry goods to bring back to the pantry,” Lewis said. “Participants can then pack in bags for November’s distribution if they choose.”
Immediately following the race there will be a fall festival at the same location.

“We have some amazing things planned like ‘Pie Our Pastor’, ‘Dunk a Deacon’ (dunk tank), bouncy houses, carnival games, awesome door prizes from local businesses, lots of food, Raising Cane’s will have a lemonade stand, photo booths, live band and a cakewalk,” she said. “It is amazing the amount of support we have received from the business community and we certainly appreciate their donations.”

The Fall festival is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Race participants have no admission charge. The festival is open to the community, with adults paying $2 and $1 for children.
