Homegoing Celebration Services for Johnathan Charles “Pokey” Douglas  will be held Saturday, December 15, 2018, 1:00 P.M. at the Zion Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Jefferson, officiating.  Interment will follow at the Mayflower Cemetery.

Johnathan Charles “Pokey” Douglas was born to the late Arthur and Betty Douglas, on September 3, 1957 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Rosie Shine Douglas on December 20, 1986. To this union two children were born. 

Johnathan is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Betty Douglas. 

At an early age, Pokey united with the Zion Hill Baptist Church; then later became a member of the Mayflower Baptist Church. He was a faith singer in the Mayflower choir, as well as served as the treasurer for the Sunday School class. 

Pokey’s employment experiences range from working at the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant to his recent employment at Boomtown. However, his true passion was carpentry. At Boomtown, many knew and loved Pokey because of his famous hugs. 

Pokey was a devoted Husband, Father and Friend. He loved with everything within him. If you did not love him because of his hugs, you knew and loved him because of his carpentry. 

He leaves to cherish a loving wife of 32 years; two daughters: Janay Douglas, Atlanta, GA; Tamara Douglas, Minden, LA; three sisters: Betty Jo Minniefield (Elbert, Sr), Shreveport, LA; Sue Ann Kennon (Gary), Bossier City, LA; Daphne Bernestine, Compton, CA;  five aunts: Glenel Woods, Dallas, TX; Addie Jones, Haughton, LA; Rosie Larkin, Princeton, LA; Luler Harris, Doyline, LA; Mildred Ware, Doyline, LA; six uncles: John L. Douglas, Shreveport, LA; Clarence Douglas, Beaumont, TX; Freddie Douglas, Haughton, LA; Jesse Ware, Doyline, LA; Lee Ware Sr., Doyline, LA; Steavens Larkins, Princeton, LA.; four brothers-in-law’s: Donnie Shine (Lonie), Homer, LA; Billy Shine (Debbie Ann), Minden, LA; Johnny Shine (Glenda), Minden, LA; Grady Shine (Earlene), Minden, LA;  one sister-in-law, Jo Ann Shine, Bossier City, LA and a loving and supportive mother-in-law, Francis Shine, Minden, LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. 

 Visitation will be held Friday, December 14th in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  Family Hour will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 PM at the Mayflower B.C.

 Services are entrusted to Kennon’s Mortuary.
