Junior high school football: Webster teams sweep Homer in season openers

The Webster Junior High Wolves seventh- and eighth-grade teams opened the season with victories over Homer at home Thursday.

The seventh-grade team won 24-0 and the eighth-grade team won 24-6.

In the seventh-grade game, Braxton Oestrich, Artevius Smallwood and Mason Sills led a dominating defensive effort.

Canden Rushing had a big interception.

Will Brown ran 55 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game. Kaiden King tossed touchdown passes to Ian Clark and Brown.

Several sixth-graders also contributed to the victory.

In the eighth-grade game, Lucas Owens Jr. scored two rushing touchdowns, including a 78-yard run up the middle untouched.

Markell Miller ran for a touchdown and had a big 30-yard catch. Jaden Johnson completed four passes and rushed for more than 50 yards. 

Bennett Speer, Javon Calloway, Holt Holliday and Nekeya Harden led a defense that held the Pelicans to just three first downs.

Homer scored on a tipped pass.

Webster is off next week. The Wolves take on Cope Sept. 12 at M.D. Ray Field at Airline Stadium.
