KAREN’S KORNER: Behind the wheel

by Minden Press-Herald

KAREN’S KORNER

According to Senior Living Ways, “there are so many factors why one would not feel comfortable behind the wheel but one of the biggest factors is simply age. Getting older doesn’t mean you stopped needing to go anywhere, the need for transporting these seniors grew along with the ever-growing senior population. Seniors are still citizens and members of this society, so they still have many tasks to be handled on a daily basis. This may include medical appointments, going to the grocery store, and the various other errands that they may have.”

So, it seems that another major issue for senior adults today is the lack of transportation. Many seniors no longer enjoy driving, either because of their eyesight, or some specific physical condition prohibiting them from driving.

So often, they are at home and are not able to go as freely as they would like. This promotes other issues like loneliness, and the feeling of helplessness and boredom.

There are several transportation services here in Minden; City Transportation, Safe Passages, and Community Services, to name a few.

If you are a client of the Webster Parish Council on Aging, transportation to and from community facilities and resources is available for a donation of $3.00 for the day. You must live within the Minden City Limits, be 60 and above and make reservations the day before your appointment! Individuals with developmental problems must be assisted.

If you have further questions, please contact the Webster Parish Council on Aging, at 318-371-3056!
