Karen’s Korner: Safety issues preview

by Minden Press-Herald

Karen’s Korner,

With a growing number of older adults living independently, it’s increasingly important to make sure that we are safe at home as well as when we are out and about.

Older adults who live alone may also become the victims of criminals who target older people. If you’re an older adult living on your own, or care for an older person living alone, there are several things you can do to promote your safety, and the safety of those around you.

I am going to begin a series of articles concerning safety issues with Senior Adults. There are several categories I will be looking into to provide information that will be helpful, and preventative.

The following is a list of safety issues concerning Seniors:

  • Falls
  • Food and nutrition
  • Decline of communication skills and cognitive function
  • Loss of mobility
  • Home fires and burns
  • Electric shock
  • Medication errors
  • Home security
  • Personal safety and scams

I will cover each category individually for the next few weeks. It is so important to be aware, alert, and attentive when it comes to safety issues.
