The Lady Tiders made it nine wins in a row following two impressive weekend victories in the Ouachita Tournament in Monroe.
On Friday night, the Lady Tiders took on tournament hosts Ouachita and handled their business with a 50-34 win.
“It was a good win over a 5A school,” Minden head coach Jacob Brown said. “It was a complete team effort. Some of our girls didn’t score a ton, but they contributed rebounding and defending.”
Derrica Gilbert led the Tiders with 21 points, and Bre Rodgers had 11.
On Saturday morning, Minden had to face a quick turnaround to head back to Monroe and face the defending 4A state runners-up, Neville.
Janiya Reed opened up the game with a three-pointer that had Minden off and running.
The Lady Tiders used a 22-1 run during the first half to create separation and lead 27-11 at halftime.
Minden hit five threes in the first half alone, and continued their sharp shooting en route to a 53-31 win.
“It was a lot of basketball with six games in one week,” Brown said. “I saw a lot of things out of our girls I hadn’t seen this season. This tournament brought the best out of us.”
Minden improves to 9-1 following the win.
Gilbert led the Lady Tiders again with 16 points. Destini Powell had 14 and Rodgers scored eight for Minden.
“Our first ten games were on the road,” Brown said. “We showed some toughness. It says a lot about our team. We are definitely looking forward to playing at home this week.”
Minden will have their first home game of the season on Tuesday as they play host to Airline (4-5) at 6 p.m. at The Palace.
