The Lakeside Warriors travel to Campti tonight for their final regular season game against Lakeview High School.
The Warriors playoff hopes aren’t looking likely but the Warriors aren’t using that as a reason to take this game lightly.
Ten seniors know it will probably be their last game and they’re prepared to go down swinging.
Lakeside head coach Joey Pesses said the attitude at practice this week has been good.
“To be honest with you I don’t know the playoff situation,” Pesses said. “We had two really good days of practice. I think the kids are excited. If they tell us Sunday that we can keep playing then we’ll be happy to do it.”
The Warriors are battling some injuries going into this game with a physical Lakeview team. Pesses said the Gators are a team that prefers to play an old-school style of football.
“Lakeview is a very physical team,” Pesses said. “I use the word loosely, but they’re nasty. They roll up their sleeves and say ‘here we are, we’re coming’. They use their physicality. They have a couple of good backs and their linemen are pretty good. They just keep going and going, wearing you down.”
Lakeside will have to match that physical style of play in order to upset Lakeview. If the Warriors are going to have a shot they will need good games from their offensive linemen.
“Defensively we have to tackle everybody. They run misdirection so we can’t assume any one person is getting the ball. On the offensive line we have to win the battle up front and get to the second level.”
