A Minden man has learned it isn’t a good idea to strike a female, especially if a pair of law enforcement officers happen to be driving by and witness the incident.

Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton said Martin Darnel Burks has been booked into the parish jail where he faces charges of domestic abuse battery and possession of CDS Sch. I (marijuana), third offense as a result of the incident on election day Tuesday.

Burks, 33, listed an address in the 700 block of Weston Street, Sexton said.

“Our deputies were driving on Clerk Street when they observed a male throw a female to the ground. They stopped their vehicle and subdued the suspect, pulling him off the female,” Sexton said.

During a search of the suspect after he had been placed under arrest, deputies found a cellophane package in his front pants pocket containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana, the sheriff said.
