The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will host a meeting at their District 1 office to present information on the use of weevils to fight giant salvinia on Lake Bistineau.
During the meeting, set for 6:30 p.m. in the Jonathan Glasscock Memorial Classroom, Thursday, May 19, Jeff Sibley, LDWF biologist manager, says the meeting will be an informational one and allow for a question and answer period.
“This is a way for the public to get information, to get accurate and relevant information,” he said. “We deal with so much rumors and misinformation, and we want to make sure people have the opportunity to come ask questions.”
Thursday’s meeting will encompass what they have learned through their weevil project and their efforts since 2007.
“We’re going to focus on that, but there will be a time for people to ask questions as well,” he said.
Space is limited to 100, so Sibley asks that interested parties come early.
The current LDWF Lake Bistineau Management Plan is available on the agency’s website.
