Louisiana driver dies in wreck with train

by Associated Press

GARYVILLE, La. (AP) — Louisiana State Police are investigating a train crash that claimed a woman’s life.

Authorities say it happened about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on Louisiana 54 in St. John the Baptist Parish.

A preliminary investigation shows the crash occurred as the driver, whose name and hometown were not released, drove around a stopped car and through the railroad crossing arms, which were in the down position with lights and audible warnings functioning. Authorities say the driver ran underneath the moving train and sustained fatal injuries.

The parish coroner’s office pronounced her dead at the scene.

State police say an autopsy will be performed to determine whether she was impaired and a positive identification.

No other injuries were reported.
