Louisiana OMV Waives Fees for Military Honor License Plates

by Minden Press-Herald

In a move to honor the service and sacrifice of military veterans, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) has announced the waiver of registration and renewal fees for certain military honor license plates.

Authorized by Act 174 of the 2023 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature, this initiative allows the OMV to issue specific military honor license plates at no cost. The plates eligible for fee waivers include those commemorating World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnamese Conflict, and the Laos War.

Under the provisions of Act 174, current owners of these license plates will automatically receive a permanent vehicle registration sticker via mail, relieving them of the burden of renewal registration requirements.

Individuals seeking to obtain these specialty license plates for the first time must provide appropriate documentation of their military service. This includes a copy of their active duty discharge orders or proof of retirement from active service with one of the armed forces of the United States during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnamese Conflict, or the Laos War.

Residents interested in learning more about vehicle registration and exploring the full range of specialty license plates available can visit the OMV’s official website at www.expresslane.org.

This initiative underscores Louisiana’s commitment to honoring its military veterans and recognizing their invaluable contributions to the nation’s history and security. Through the waiver of fees for military honor license plates, the state aims to express gratitude and support for those who have served in defense of freedom and democracy.

For further information and inquiries, individuals are encouraged to visit the OMV website or contact their local OMV office.
