Louisiana Tech University marked a significant milestone as it conferred degrees upon 358 graduates during the Winter 2024 Commencement ceremony. The event, held at the Thomas Assembly Center, served as a joyous celebration of academic achievement and marked the expansion of the Tech Family to 113,816 strong.
One of the poignant moments of the ceremony was the presence of Dr. Les Guice, Louisiana Tech’s 14th president, who attended his first commencement as president emeritus. Dr. Guice, a distinguished graduate of Louisiana Tech, commended the graduates for their resilience in the face of various challenges, including the April 2019 tornado and the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his commencement address, Dr. Guice expressed confidence in the graduates, highlighting their potential to make a positive difference in the world. He emphasized the transformative nature of their experiences at Louisiana Tech and encouraged them to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.
The ceremony also marked the inauguration of Dr. Jim Henderson as the new president of Louisiana Tech. Dr. Henderson praised Dr. Guice’s dedication to the institution, describing him as a true embodiment of the university’s motto, “Ever Loyal Be.” He lauded Dr. Guice’s leadership and character, underscoring his invaluable contributions to Louisiana Tech over the span of 45 years.
Amidst the celebrations, Justin and Jeanette Hinckley were honored with the Tower Medallion, the highest honor bestowed by the university. Recognized for their exceptional achievements, community service, and humanitarian activities, the Hinckleys exemplify the spirit of excellence and service that Louisiana Tech instills in its alumni.
Justin, a Computer Science graduate, and Jeanette, an English education graduate, both graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1978. Their contributions to their respective fields and their dedication to serving others have left a lasting impact on the university community and beyond.
