A Mooringsport man was arrested early Thursday after police said he fled on foot from a traffic stop near Minden High School and was found to have two felony warrants from Dallas County, Texas.
According to Minden police, an officer was patrolling College Street at Richardson Street just after midnight on August 14 when he saw a small tan SUV parked next to the school. As the officer circled the block to make contact, he saw the SUV traveling the wrong way on Richardson Street.
The officer activated emergency lights for a traffic stop, but a man later identified as Jonathan Ayoung Leechow, 39, jumped from the back passenger side of the vehicle and ran, police said. The officer gave commands for him to stop, but Leechow ran through a backyard and over two fences before being caught about 50 yards away on Ash Street.
Police said Leechow was identified through a database check, which revealed two felony warrants listed in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) from Dallas County. Dallas County authorities confirmed they would extradite, and the warrants were faxed to Minden police.
Leechow was booked into the Minden Police Department jail on fugitive warrants from Dallas County.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
