A Minden man was found deceased in the parking lot of Walmart Supercenter Saturday afternoon.
Police Chief Steve Cropper says Chris Hunter was found in a van, but foul play does not seem to be apparent.
“We don’t know what he died of,” Cropper said. “We’re thinking it’s something medical.”
According to the preliminary investigation, Cropper said Hunter had breakfast with his girlfriend Saturday morning and had a meeting in Arcadia around 9 or 10 a.m. but never showed up. Cropper says Hunter did some work for funeral homes but was not sure which one; however, it was an employee of Rose-Neath who found him.
At this time, his death is still under investigation. Hunter’s remains have been sent to Little Rock, Arkansas for autopsy.

So sad to have left this world sitting in his vehicle.
Probably died from doing air duster
Trying to sniff the can, he probably didn’t shake the can
Praying for his family
That is sad
Air duster is bad kids dont do it or you might end up like this
I am so sorry to hear of this man… May he rest in peace. Altho the description given sounds like it was suicidal.. I wasn’t there and I’m not fit to judge.. However I send my condolences to the family.
Those are some nasty comments from people you don’t now this man don’t judge
Chris was a sweetheart who lived for his son. Praying for Aiden and the rest of his family
Stop this….. we don’t know what happen so let’s just wait on the report to see autopsy result so I will be praying for hosting family..?
Prayers for his little boy & family.
Glad he was found right away!
People are insensitive. I am sick of people jumping to conclusions and then POSTING about them without the facts.
Also, I’m disappointed in the reporter who wrote this article!!!! I believe you could have left out his Walmart purchase until YOU know the true reason for his death. You may just be “reporting what was told”, but the fact that you included that he purchased compressed air leads some to believe that was the reason for his death! SURELY you know this Michelle! You are baiting the reader and outs not right! Did you sleep well last night? That one sentence has led to a lot of NASTY remarks.
My heartfelt prayers go to his son and family. I pray for them to have peace in their hearts! As for you people who just can’t refrain from making ignorant nasty remarks, I hope you feel soooooo much better and this doesn’t happen to any of your loved ones. Honestly just SHUTUP if you can’t offer condolences to the family. That is what’s wrong with society; there always has to be those that just have to be so downright hateful, and for what? Just so you can show the rest of us how incredibly nasty and stupid yall are? Well I offer my congrats to you, yall have now earned the INTERNET JACKASS AWARD! Now go find something else to do and let this family grieve. And I already know some of you wont be able to stop yourself from commenting even further stupidity directed to me; go ahead because I honestly could care less. I truly and sincerely don’t care what you nasty heartless people have to say. K, thanks!
Poorly written report and article. RIP Chris. You were loved by so many.
Whomever wrote this needs to check their selves. Is it really so important to you to have readers and activity on your story that youbwould throw a dead man under the bus so to speak? Why why WHY do you think it is necessary to say he bought air duster?? You don’t have a clue what he needed it for. I mean my word I’ve bought air duster too. This man could’ve had an heart attack or blood clot or a diabetic attack or maybe even an allergic reaction you don’t know and to post such shit is distasteful to say the least and I hope no one jumps to conclusions and makes people think things like what are being said about him when you die…so sorry for this families loss and even more so that they can’t even mourne in peace because of some asshat people and the person who wrote this
RIP Chris, so young, so sad. Prayers to his son and family.
Praying
This journalism is a shame. Michelle Bates you should be ashamed of your work and owe this family an apology.
This article is very poorly written, very amateur. This newspaper owes the Hunter family a written apology published in the newspaper.
Prayer for his family.
I hope the family approved this first to many details and the unknown if what happened and a name is out there…so sad.
Prayer for this family so sorry for your loss.
I am so appalled by the reference in the article as well as the insensitive comments! To all those people…what if it was YOUR brother, son, father or friend??? You are hateful and unsympathetic people! May his family find some comfort and peace. Thanks to Chris who was there for me and my family during our devastating losses. Rest in peace my friend.
I am so sad to hear this news. Chris was such a great guy who was a great friend to my family. Prayers to his family and shame on all tbose Maki g negative comments. You are all truly insensitive people.
Praying for this family!!
Come on people, stop being hateful to one another and pray for peace and healing for this family. A life has passed and there is a child to think about. My prayers comfort and peace to this family are lifted. God Bless you all.
Everyone upset at reporter but both are very wrong, to write all info given also wrong The chief gave out ALL THE DETAILS.. COMMON SENSE SAYS. ( for both parties should have said..if you don’t know the facts YET.).you simply say..” STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION”!!!… both parties are WRONG!!!! the hateful remarks made against this man and all His family NO RESPECT GIVEN. Yea I said it.. they the chief and reporter BOTH WRONG.
Chris was a wonderful man. Always doing for others! His life revolved around his son who he adored! He was the best dad. This is soo sad! People do not make this ugly!! This man would never have been insensitive to you or yours!! What is going on with people today??
I am Chris Hunter’s sister. For all of you who are speculating the cause of death, the preliminary autopsy report was coronary heart disease. Chris died of natural causes. Thank you for your prayers and kind words at this time.
For all of you that feel you need to judge, just remember this,
Matthew 7:1-5English Standard Version (ESV)
Judging Others
7 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
It floors me how some people are quick to think the worst of what happened,,, I am sitting here at my computer and on my top shelf is Compressed computer spray for cleaning my keyboard,,,never in a million years would I think to do something with other than what it is used for,,,,You can’t fix stupid for some people,,,,, my prayers is for the family and may God wrap his loving arms around the family at this time.
So sad. We didn’t know him but we pray for his family during this time.
My prayers go out for this family; however, there was nothing I saw that was disrespectful in this article. Reporters report the facts. I don’t think she was insinuating anything. Get real people! Geesh!
I have worked with Chris on several calls! He has always been professional and friendly. Prayers for his family and loved ones at this time!
I counted it a privilege that Chris and his son would sit by us at church. So kind! Prayers for all the family.
I hope whoever wrote this article doesn’t get paid for it. First of all, Chris Hunter has worked years for RoseNeath. He was over the funeral home in Arcadia but he would also work funerals in Minden and Homer. He also would pick up bodies and embalm them at night. He had a meeting in Homer at 10:00 to meet a family. When Chris wasn’t there, employees and loved ones were out looking for him because anyone that knew Chris knows he is dependable. Did they talked to Homer RoseNeath and asked about stuck keys on keyboard? Research your articles just don’t print trash.
This article…another reason I don’t read Minden Press-Herald….
Chris was a great guy! I am wondering if MPH hires college graduates to write thier stories? If something happened to me and I had just bought paper towels, would that be a part of the story? Maybe you could say, cause of death unknown and leave it there? If something more sensational is revealed then you could report that… Small southern towns… SMH
If the purpose of this article was for “fast breaking news” Ms. Bates you fell way short in your performance as a reporter. I think this story could of waited for the Monday paper, when you had all the facts and maybe a supervisor to read over your work. In your rush, you did a lousy job. Chris Hunter was such a wonderful person. Always a shoulder to lean on at a family’s worst moment – the death of a loved one. He will be missed so much. My prayers are with his family.
Chris was a great guy! He was always there if you needed him and he always had a great smile. Everyone will miss Chris so much. I am lifting his son and family up in my prayers.
I thought the first rule of journalism was to check the facts, Chris has worked for Rose Neath for many years and second don’t you make sure the family has been contacted before you print an article. He was friends or kin to most of Minden, it would only take a phone call to check things out. A little compassion goes a long way in a small town. He was an upstanding great guy. May try printing a retraction and start over, that would be the politically correct way to handle this
Reporters like this give smaller newspapers a bad name. Doesn’t someone supervise her? While she may have felt that she was printing facts, someone with a modicum of common sense would know that the purchase would stick in people’s minds. Why not just report that he had made a purchase in Walmart, and whether he appeared healthy at the time. She probably did not have that information since that would have required interviewing people and would have required actual reporting – not just a phone call.
What did it matter what was purchased! The fact is this was someone’s son, brother, uncle, and DAD! Why print something that only sends out presumption and assumption! This family is a wonderful loving family who cares about people! Chris was a great person and for this to be the write up on his death is a disgrace! Prayers for the family and his son right now is what is needed!
I’m just curious how Minden press-herald does their reporting. Since you couldn’t wait for the investigation or the autopsy of Chris Hunter to be completed before you printed this article I’m just wondering if there will be an updated article stating the facts instead of implied or insinuating comments and speculations of an investigation that had not been completed at the time. Just for future reference it doesn’t matter how big you think a story is you should never run it until you have all of the facts. So now that you know how he passed away and that he was a great man loved by all and it wasn’t as juicy or corrupt as it may have been thought to be it seems it’s not worth printing an updated version :/ sounds like reporting at it’s finest.
Theresa Sanders Gardner, she edited this article from her original. It doesn’t state near the story she had at first. I have the screen shots of the story she originally published from sending them to a friend.
May I ask, what was Cropper thinking and what on earth was this so called reporter thinking. Did she take any schooling on journalism and what academy did he derive from. This article is beyond my comprehension. Why do we look for the bad, dirty, the stink in life. Everyone has to go sometime. Why does this generation always have to lay blame on something and /or someone. I know people make mistakes, but this is someone’s loved one. The news media and the police have nothing better to do than to try to make everything so negative. It’s all about “power”. I am sorry to say you all FLOPPED on this one!
I cannot believe how poor this article is written. This is why I soooo dislike the media. They are like starving wolves to get a malicious story out there and then there is a sad excuse , if any for an apology.
News reporters do NOT have a heart at all. I am appalled. If all of her reports are like this, she needs to look for another job. She should really be ashamed of herself for writing something so elementary. First of all, it states only speculations and no facts except that he was deceased. I have seen some bad articles, but never this bad. For Chris to have been such an upstanding man in his community, loved by the community, and known by so many and to say he sometimes worked for the funeral home. Oh my word! This man has helped comfort so many loved ones of deceased families. I don’t know what I would have done without him myself. I feel for the immediate family. There was just no excuse not explanation good enough to have even published this. Enough cannot be said on this reporter. She needs to highly consider another job and if she were my employee, she would quite simply be fired! No heart or thought whatsoever went into writing this much less printing it!
How very unprofessional. And insensitive. Reporting at it’s worst. Much prayer for the family.
