Minden, LA – In recent weeks, the City of Minden has faced questions regarding a financial settlement and a related vehicle repair payment involving the Minden Police Department. These actions took place while Mayor Nick Cox was out of state on a family vacation. The financial settlement was unusual, as it occurred without a formal demand letter or lawsuit. These decisions were made without full involvement of the City Council.
In response, Mayor Cox submitted a mandatory self-report to the Louisiana Legislative Auditor under Revised Statute 24:523 for independent review of both the settlement and the related payment.
“Public funds must always be handled with transparency and accountability,” said Mayor Cox. “We are cooperating fully with the Legislative Auditor and will support any recommendations to strengthen our processes moving forward.”
Mayor Cox and the City Council are working together to review the situation, pending guidance from the Louisiana Legislative Auditor regarding appropriate next steps. Both the Mayor and Council remain committed to protecting the integrity of city operations and maintaining public trust.
Questions still need to be cleared up regarding what urgency may have existed that justified bypassing council approval and not involving the city’s insurance provider.
“As Mayor, it is my responsibility to ensure that all expenditures of public funds are transparent, that legal procedures are followed, and that the public remains informed,” added Cox.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available and the review process continues.
