Minden, LA – Mayor Nick Cox has officially proclaimed September 10, 2025, as Veterans Suicide Prevention Awareness Day in Minden. This proclamation emphasizes the city’s dedication to honoring the sacrifices of veterans, promoting mental wellness, and raising awareness about suicide prevention among those who have served our nation.
In issuing this proclamation, Mayor Cox urges all citizens of Minden to recognize the value of every veteran’s life and to stand united in support of the men and women who have selflessly defended our freedoms. The day calls on the community to extend gratitude, compassion, and assistance to veterans and their families while supporting local and national initiatives aimed at reducing the tragedy of veteran suicide.
The proclamation further highlights the importance of collaboration between local organizations, health providers, veteran advocates, and community members to create a network of resources and care. By designating September 10, 2025, as Veterans Suicide Prevention Awareness Day, Minden reaffirms its commitment to preventing suicide, supporting mental wellness, and honoring the resilience and value of every veteran.
Veterans have given so much to protect our nation, it is our duty to ensure they know they are not alone, that their lives matter, and that their community stands ready to support them in times of need. This proclamation is both a recognition and a call to action for every citizen of Minden. Members of the Webster Parish Veterans Safety Net Coalition organized the proclamation event held at the Minden Recreation Complex. The community coalition was established in October 2024 by the collaborative efforts of the Overton Brooks VA medical center suicide prevention community-based intervention team and representatives from The American Legion of Minden, LA, Minden’s Lions Club, Huffman Manor, New Horizons Living Center, Can Do Counseling, Northwest Louisiana Technical College, Healing From the Heart, Minden Medical Center, Webster Council on Aging, Webster Men of Courage, Minden Evening Lion’s Club, and local organizations that serve veterans.
