City of Minden – February 2026
February was a productive month for the City of Minden as our departments continued the daily work of serving our citizens while also making progress on several projects that will shape the future of our community.
Infrastructure remains one of our top priorities. Our Public Works team continued preparing for several major capital projects, including the Industrial Drive Road Project, which will repave Industrial Drive from the Highway 531 intersection to the last Love’s Truck Stop exit. We are also preparing for construction of a new 2-million-gallon ground storage tank that will be built on the site of the old Clerk Street Water Plant. Funding for both of these projects is being provided through grant support from the State of Louisiana. These projects represent important long-term investments in the reliability and strength of our city’s infrastructure.
Quality of life in our community also continues to be a major focus. The Recreation Enhancement Project is now underway, and we are already seeing great progress at the recreation complex. What originally began as a discussion about improving a few baseball and softball fields has grown into a broader effort to enhance the entire recreation complex. The project includes improvements to multiple athletic fields, upgrades to basketball and tennis courts, the construction of a new playground, and additional amenities designed to make the complex an even better place for families to gather and spend time together.
This investment reflects our belief that strong communities are built not only through infrastructure and utilities, but also through places where families can come together, children can play, and residents can enjoy time outdoors. When completed, these improvements will benefit youth sports, community events, and families across Minden for many years to come. The upgraded facilities will also position Minden to host more tournaments and regional events, bringing visitors to our community and supporting local businesses through sports tourism.
We are also pleased to once again offer free beginner swimming lessons this year. We believe every child in Minden should have the opportunity to learn how to swim. Teaching water safety at a young age is an important life skill, and we are proud to provide that opportunity to families in our community.
This year will also be a special one for our city. In 2026, our nation will celebrate its 250th anniversary, and the City of Minden will celebrate 190 years of history. We are calling this our 250/190 Celebration, and it will be a major focus of activity in our community this summer as we bring residents, families, and visitors together to recognize these important milestones.
