Meriwether offering four $1,000 scholarships to area seniors

by Amber McDown

Meriwether Wealth & Planning is offering four $1,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors across North Louisiana, with applications due by 5 PM Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

The Minden-based financial advisory firm said it is able to continue the scholarship program this year through the generosity of its clients. Applications are available online at meriwether.com/scholarship and must be received by the deadline to be considered.

The scholarships are open to graduating seniors from public or private high schools in Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, Jackson, Lincoln, Ouachita, Red River, Union and Webster parishes. Students must plan to enroll full time at an accredited college or university in fall 2026.

Applicants must have a minimum ACT composite score of 20 and a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Students must submit a completed and signed application along with all required documentation. Materials include an official high school transcript, ACT transcript, a teacher letter of reference, a professional letter of reference from a civic or business leader, a college acceptance letter and a personal essay.

Applications will be evaluated based on academic achievement, curricular and extracurricular involvement, personal goals, recommendation letters and the student essay. Organizers also note that proper grammar, spelling and neat handwriting are encouraged.

Completed application packets must be mailed or delivered to Meriwether Wealth & Planning, Attn: Scholarship Selection Committee, 1000 Broadway St., Minden, LA 71055. Applications received after 5 PM on the deadline date will not be eligible. Scholarship winners will be announced in April.

Funds will be released after recipients provide documentation showing college tuition and fees are due. Scholarship checks will be sent directly to the college or university.

As part of the application, students are asked to provide academic history, honors and awards, extracurricular and community involvement, employment history and leadership roles. An essay of at least 400 words is also required, outlining college and career goals and how the student plans to be a leader in both their profession and community.
