A Minden man was arrested just before 10PM on August 15 after police located marijuana, cash and a firearm during a traffic stop on Sibley Road, according to the Minden Police Department.
Officers were dispatched to the area after receiving a notice to be on the lookout for a silver Honda allegedly connected to a drive-by shooting. The vehicle, driven by 25-year-old Lacarlos Lofton, was located entering the city from U.S. Highway 371.
Police said Lofton gave permission for officers to walk around the vehicle, where a visible .223 AR pistol rifle was observed in the front seat. Officers also reported a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 73 grams of marijuana and a large amount of cash. Lofton later admitted to owning the marijuana and acknowledged knowing the firearm was inside the vehicle, police said.
Lofton was transported to the Minden Police Department for booking and then taken to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center. He faces charges of possession of Schedule I (marijuana) with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
