Minden community cleanup event seeks volunteers

by Amber McDown

Stephanie Barnette, president of the Greater Minden Chamber of Commerce, is calling on businesses, community organizations, schools, and individuals to join forces for a community cleanup initiative. Partnering with the City of Minden and Webster Parish Tourism, the event aims to beautify the local area and foster community pride.

“We need your help,” Barnette declared, emphasizing the importance of community involvement. Participants can choose from two cleanup days: Saturday, April 20, after the Scottish Tartan Festival from 5 PM to 8 PM, or Thursday, April 25, from 8 AM to 1 PM.

All volunteers will be invited to an after-party and awards ceremony on Thursday, April 25, at 2 PM at Miller Quarters Park. The celebration will feature music, games, food, and fun to recognize the hard work of participants.

Awards will be presented for the “Most Spirited Team,” “Largest Team,” and “Most Litter Collected.” Businesses or organizations with projects requiring additional manpower can also contact the Chamber to request assistance. Projects such as painting, litter pickup, planting shrubs/flowers, or power washing can be facilitated with the Chamber providing labor support.

“This is a great way to bring awareness to our state’s litter problem and promote litter prevention,” Barnette notes. She encourages everyone to sign up, donate, or sponsor the event to make Louisiana a cleaner and more beautiful place to live, work, and play.
