Minden man arrested on drug charges after traffic obstruction incident

by Minden Press-Herald

A 50-year-old Minden man was arrested on multiple drug charges following a routine traffic stop by local law enforcement earlier this week. The incident occurred around 2:53 PM on Green Street, when officers observed two pedestrians—one male and one female—walking erratically and obstructing traffic.

The male pedestrian, later identified as Thomas Boyd, was seen walking alongside a female companion, occupying the entire lane of traffic near 1 Medical Place. Officers noted that both individuals exhibited unsteady gaits, with the female pedestrian stumbling multiple times. Concerned by their behavior, officers initiated a Terry stop, activating their emergency lights to approach the individuals.

Upon contact, officers observed that both pedestrians appeared to be sweating profusely, and their speech was slurred and incoherent. Boyd was initially cooperative, identifying himself and consenting to a frisk. During the frisk, officers discovered a hard object in Boyd’s pocket, which he allowed them to remove. The object was identified as a marijuana pipe, along with two additional pipes.

When questioned about other potential paraphernalia, Boyd initially denied possession of any other items. However, a further search revealed a noticeable bulge in Boyd’s right leg. When asked about the bulge, Boyd exclaimed, “F*ck, it’s a dope pipe, and a little bit of meth,” before being placed in handcuffs.

A subsequent search uncovered two cotton sunglass cases concealed beneath Boyd’s outer clothing. Inside one of the cases, officers found a broken glass pipe with white residue, which is suspected to be methamphetamine, along with 1.4 grams of a white substance wrapped in plastic and tin foil, believed to be meth.

Boyd was arrested and transported to the Minden Police Department, where he was booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine (a Schedule II controlled substance) and simple obstruction of a highway of commerce.

All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
