A Minden man was arrested on multiple charges after officers encountered him on a residential porch and confirmed he had active warrants, according to police reports.
On April 16, an officer observed Thaddeus Smith, 48, seated on the front porch in the 800 block of Carolina Street and recognized him from prior encounters. Dispatch confirmed Smith had active warrants on file.
As officers approached, they observed a checkered backpack in front of Smith with a bag of suspected marijuana on top. Smith was instructed multiple times to stand and place his hands behind his back but failed to comply, according to the report.
Smith then stood and attempted to move away toward a stairwell area. When officers again ordered him to comply, Smith attempted to swat at a Taser and threw a knife behind him into the stairwell.
Officers attempted to restrain Smith, who continued to resist before eventually being placed in handcuffs and advised of his rights.
A search of the backpack revealed a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance. When questioned, Smith stated, “I’m going to be real, it’s cocaine.” Officers also located three glass pipes with residue, along with cigarillos and rolling papers.
Smith was transported to the Minden Police Department for booking.
He was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance (cocaine), possession of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance (marijuana), resisting an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two bench warrants.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
