Residents were able to take part in a life-saving initiative Wednesday afternoon as Minden Medical Center hosted a Community Organ Donor Drive aimed at raising awareness and increasing the number of registered organ and tissue donors.
The event was held in the hospital cafeteria, where representatives from the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) provided information, answered questions, and assisted participants with on-site donor registration.
“One organ donor can save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of dozens more through tissue donation,” said Keith Cox, CEO of Minden Medical Center. “Our goal is to empower the community with knowledge and make it easy for people to take that important step to become a donor.”
Educational materials and giveaways were available as part of the outreach effort. Organizers said the event aimed to make the registration process simple and encourage more residents to consider donation.
According to LOPA, more than 100,000 people in the United States are waiting for life-saving organ transplants, with thousands more in need of tissue or corneal transplants to improve their quality of life.
