Downtown Minden will host an expanded three-day celebration June 11-13 as the city marks both America’s 250th anniversary and Minden’s 190th birthday with a weekend of festivals, competitions, music, family activities, and fireworks.

The “Liberty & Legacy” celebration, organized by the City of Minden and the Minden Main Street District, will feature a mix of longtime community traditions and new additions.

Among the most anticipated returning events are the Greater Minden Chamber Duck Derby and Grilling on Main barbecue competition, both of which have become staple attractions for local residents and visitors.

Organizers said the celebration is expected to draw thousands of attendees from across the region.

Festivities begin June 11 with Bites & Beats from 5-7 PM at Miller Quarters Park. The event will include live music, a waterslide, and a cookout.

Activities continue June 12 with Minden’s 190th anniversary celebration from 6-9 PM downtown. Events scheduled include an opening ceremony, performances by local schools, the Little Grillers Competition, and a cornhole tournament.

June 13 will feature a full day of activities beginning with the Run Minden on Main patriotic 5K at 8 AM. Organizers said the race will include music, popsicles, awards, and a block party atmosphere downtown.

At 10 AM, the second annual Pet Mayor Collaring Ceremony will announce elected pet officials, including Pet Mayor, Chief of Pawlice, Fur Chief, and council members.

Grilling on Main begins at 11 AM and includes the People’s Choice tasting competition where community members vote on their favorite entries. The barbecue competition will award a Grand Champion belt as well as cash prizes for brisket, ribs, chicken, and signature dish categories.

The America 250th Celebration begins at 1 PM and will feature live music, performances, a children’s patriotic parade, and a celebrity watermelon seed spitting contest.

The weekend concludes with the Greater Minden Chamber Duck Derby at 7 PM and a fireworks finale at 9 PM.

Additional activities throughout the festival will include a kids play area with inflatables, hot dog eating contests, live entertainment, and interactive attractions throughout downtown.

Organizers also announced sponsorship opportunities for businesses interested in supporting the celebration and increasing community visibility during the event.

More information, registration details, and sponsorship opportunities are available through Minden Main Street District sponsorship page and Grilling on Main registration.
