Minden Vehicle Theft Results In Fatal Crash

by Will Phillips

(Minden, La.) – A motor vehicle theft in Minden on Thursday resulted in a fatal crash.

Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a vehicle crash on La. Highway 528 near Goodwill Road in Minden. Billy Cobb, 51, of Leesville, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Cobb was a Transitional Work Program participant housed at the Bayou Dorcheat Correction Center in Minden.  The program is administered by the La. Dept. of Corrections and managed by the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office. Selected participants work full-time at area employers to receive work training and skills.

Sheriff Jason Parker said, “This is a tragic situation. We are still gathering all the facts, but our initial investigation finds that Mr. Cobb took a company vehicle, 2005 Toyota pickup truck, from his place of employment without authorization and left the business.”

According to State Police, Cobb lost control of his vehicle and traveled off the highway. Once leaving the highway, Cobb’s vehicle began to overturn before striking a tree, causing his fatal injuries.

Sheriff Parker thanks the first responders and the La. State Police for their quick response to this incident.
