MONROE – The Apache netters were again “on the road” for a dual match with district rival River Oaks Mustangs. The 6-1 win marked the halfway point in the district race; the Apaches are leading District 6-AA with a record of 3-0. “We are pleased with the progress of our four first-year players,” Netters head coach Wayne Orr said. “Their earning points has kept us undefeated this season. However, we must continue to strengthen our game-strategy; competition in the South AA Tournament will be tougher.”

MIXED DOUBLES – Abigail Gilbert and Justin Le defeated Katie Meredith and Jonathan Stacy 6-1, 6-0.

GIRLS’ SINGLES – Amelia Christy defeated Sarah Sneiler 6-0, 6-0. Catherine Willis defeated Audrey Holland 6-0, 6-0.

BOYS’ SINGLES – Schyler Powell defeated Arian Joff 6-0, 6-0.

BOYS’ DOUBLES – John Curtis Brown and Johnny Law Flournoy defeated the River Oaks’ No. 2 girls’ doubles team. The Mustangs did not field a boys’ doubles team. Sarah Stacy and Saksham Sahram lost 6-0, 6-0.

GIRLS’ DOUBLES – The No. 1 team of Evie Walker and Katharyn Woodard defeated Sally Henry and Caroline Williams 6-2, 6-2. In the No. 2 doubles, the Apaches’ duo of Darbi Walker and Mary-Evelyn King were defeated by Clare Tannehill and Grace Ann Moore by scores of 6-4 and 7-6.

“This match-up featured our four first-year players,” Orr said. “There were flashes of brilliance, but unforced errors decided the match.”
