Talks are currently underway regarding the formation of a new, youth football team for 11-12 year olds in Minden.
Antonio Robinson, a Minden High graduate, came up with the idea of starting the youth team in an effort to give prospective football players more attention and experience.
“I’ve been talking about forming a team with guys around town for over a year now,” Robinson said. “We need a team like this around here. Schools like Evangel, Calvary, Airline, Haughton and Haynesville all have teams like this that practice together year-round and have their scheme down pat.”
Robinson stated the team would employ a scheme similar to what is run by the Minden Crimson Tide.
A schedule is currently being put in place, according to Robinson, who also said the team would be largely self-sufficient in the team’s first season.
“There’s a lot of stuff we can do for the kids,” Robinson said. “We have to get these children exposed and more involved with football. Once the Rec. league ends, football is just over for these kids.”
Robinson said the proposed team would play uder the name “Minden Elite,” a name he coined himself.
