Motorists traveling Interstate 20 through Webster and Bossier parishes can expect nighttime lane closures beginning next month as the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development undertakes a pavement striping project.
The $378,952 project will provide new roadway striping and reflectorized pavement markings along I-20 from the Interstate 220 interchange in Bossier City to just west of the U.S. 371 interchange in Dixie Inn. The work also includes the entrance and exit ramps at each interchange along the project corridor.
Construction is scheduled to begin Sunday, Aug. 9, and will be performed overnight to reduce traffic congestion and minimize disruptions for motorists.
Drivers should expect slow-moving operations and intermittent lane closures from approximately 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights, weather permitting.
According to DOTD, the project is expected to be completed in mid- to late September, although the schedule remains dependent on weather conditions.
The department said pavement striping and reflectorized markings play a critical role in roadway safety by helping motorists navigate travel lanes, anticipate roadway conditions and identify passing zones.
“Pavement markings provide continuous information related to roadway alignment, vehicle positioning and other important driving-related tasks,” DOTD said in announcing the project.
Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling through the work zone, watch for workers and equipment, obey posted traffic control devices and allow additional travel time during nighttime construction hours.
DOTD advises that work schedules are subject to change because of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
