In a dramatic turn of events on Joel Street in Minden, a Minden police officer pursued and apprehended Roycedric Edwards, 43, following a traffic violation. The incident unfolded on May 2 when the officer observed a gold Mitsubishi Galant turn onto Peach Alley without signaling.
The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Mason Alley, but Edwards, identified as the passenger, fled on foot upon activation of the emergency lights. A chase ensued, with the officer giving loud verbal commands to stop resisting. Edwards was ultimately caught approximately 100 yards down Joel Street in a backyard in the 400 block.
Upon apprehension, Edwards was commanded at gunpoint to the ground and was found in possession of a meth pipe. A search incident to arrest revealed 4 grams of methamphetamine in his pocket. Further investigation along Edwards’ path of flight uncovered a second meth pipe and a loaded Bryco Arms 9mm handgun, leading to additional charges as a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Edwards faces charges including resisting by flight, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine, felon in possession of a firearm, firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, and obstruction of justice. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, prompting a search effort.
Edwards was transported to the Minden Police Department for booking and then to BDCC. The investigation into the fleeing vehicle is ongoing.
