Pete Colvin Memorial Rodeo highlights local talent and competition

The 4th Annual Pete Colvin Memorial Rodeo took place on August 2-3 at Jack Baton Arena, showcasing local talent and drawing a crowd of rodeo enthusiasts. The event, sanctioned by the Tri-State Rodeo Association (TSRA), featured thrilling performances and competitions, including a specialty act by Katie Lynn English and comedic entertainment by Al Bryan.

The Colvin family, represented by Corey and Jordan Colvin, expressed their gratitude to the community for their support. “Louisiana 4 and the Colvin Family would like to thank everyone for coming out to support the 4th Annual Pete Colvin Memorial Rodeo. We strive to provide a local, friendly family event that Minden can enjoy,” they stated.

They also thanked a host of sponsors who contributed to the event’s success: Carroway Pre-Owned, B1Bank, Under Dawgs, Pat Gros Trucking, Andrews Towing & Recovery, Parish Meat Processing, Minden Farm & Garden, Catherine Hunt Realty, Carter Credit Union, Brown Glass, The Waltman Law Firm, Smithys Heat & Air, It’s Sew Monica, and The Branded Range, Gabby Monday- Pampered Chef. Special acknowledgements were given to the production crew, Rockin’ J Rodeo Company, Katie Lynn English, Eric Simmons, Al Bryan, McKenzie Wilder with the Benton Drill Team, and Minden Riding Club. Chris Plants and Billy Dorsey were honored with the “Hometown Veteran” award on both nights of the event.

The rodeo featured a series of competitions with standout performances. On Friday night, the winners included:

  • Bareback: Jaxson Thurmon, 1st place
  • Ranch Bronc: Dallas Black, 1st place; Christian Gonzalez, 2nd place
  • Calf Roping: Jesse Cole, 1st place
  • BAW: Audrey Smith, 1st place; Dora Dawson, 2nd place; Darbi DeMoss, 3rd place
  • Team Roping: Justin Booth and Kade Maroney, 1st place; Mike Smith and Jacob Dixon, 2nd place; Bo Herbert and Kade Maroney, 3rd place
  • Barrels: Lindsey Brown, 1st place; Cassie Gantt, 2nd place; Katie English, 3rd place
  • Bulls: Seth Prejean, 1st place; Justin Shaw, 2nd place; Kolten Drury, 3rd place

Saturday night saw additional competition with the following winners:

  • Barrels: Landan English, 1st place; Gabbie Gleason, 2nd place; Brandi DeHart, 3rd place
  • Bulls: Baler Raymond, 1st place
  • Bareback: Jaxson Thurmon, 1st place
  • Ranch Bronc: Dallas Black, 1st place
  • Calf Roping: Martin Walker, 1st place
  • BAW: Darbi DeMoss, 1st place; Ashley Perkins, 2nd place; Mikayla Reeves, 3rd place
  • Team Roping: Justin Booth and Landon Smith, 1st place; Tyler McGuffee and Peyton Leflett, 2nd place; Stran Smith and Jeff Pierce, 3rd place

The Colvin family expressed excitement for future events, stating, “We are already preparing for next year’s rodeo to be bigger and better than ever!” The rodeo continues to be a cherished tradition in Minden, providing a platform for local talent and fostering a sense of community.
