Pierce Burton.jpg 2Funeral services for Pierce E. Burton Jr., 84, were at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Minden with Bro. Leland Crawford and Bro. Bill Crider officiating. Interment followed at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden. The family received friends at Rose Neath Funeral Home from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m., Wednesday.

Mr. Burton was known since childhood by his nickname, “Ponto.” Ponto was born on April 21, 1930, to Pierce and Annie Burton. He entered Heaven on Monday, April 13 at his home following a brief illness.

Mr. Burton enjoyed the last 30 years of his life farming, gardening and raising cattle. He served as a justice of the peace for over 50 years; a position that was previously held by his father for many years.

He is survived his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Caskey Burton of Minden; sons, Mike Burton and wife Tammy of Minden and Keith Burton and wife Tina of Shreveport; sister, Margaret Ann Burton; nephew, Ralph Cross of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren, Beau Burton and wife Lexie of West Monroe and Ryan, Will and Anna Kate Burton of Shreveport.

Pallbearers were grandsons Beau, Ryan and Will Burton; Ralph Cross, Gary Greene, and Harold Roberts.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Joe Bolger and B. J. Pike, R.N. of Gamble Hospice for care given to their loved one.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org or 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105) or the First Baptist Church of Minden Homebound Ministry (301 Pennsylvania Avenue, Minden, LA 71055).
