Organizers of the 11th annual Prayer in the Park are inviting the entire community to gather for a morning of prayer, fellowship, and support as students prepare to return to school.
The event will be held Saturday, August 8, at 9AM in Academy Park and is open to residents throughout Minden and the surrounding area.
The annual gathering will include prayers for students, teachers, first responders, public officials, and the City of Minden. This year’s prayer leaders will be Chris Plants of Men of Courage and Prescott Thomas of St. Rest Baptist Church of Cullen.
Musical selections will be provided by Gary Swanson and Clifford Williams.
Those attending will also have an opportunity to meet Anthony Kennedy, the new principal of Webster Junior High School.
In addition to the prayer service, the Minden Fire Department will distribute smoke detectors, and clear backpacks will be given away to children who are present while supplies last.
The backpack giveaway is being sponsored by Dan Weaver, Ward Marshal; GBT Bank; Attorney Eric G. Johnson; Yocom Law Firm; and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Refreshments will be provided by the Minden Walmart.
Event organizers Michael and Chequella Walker said they hope residents from across the community will attend.
“We want the whole town to come out and join us in prayer,” Michael Walker said.
Prayer in the Park has become an annual tradition in Minden, bringing together churches, community leaders, public officials, first responders, educators, and families to seek blessings and protection for the upcoming school year.
