Rennie Bailey, head coach of Minden High School’s boys basketball program, will be the speaker at the Minden Lions Club meeting this week.
Bailey graduated from Minden in 1979, and has held coaching jobs at Nicholls State, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Lafayette and Stephen F. Austin, among others. Bailey played basketball for the Bulldogs and graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1987 with a degree in health and physical education.
Bailey coached Tech legends P.J. Brown and Ron Ellis to the NBA and also recruited Gerrod King to Nicholls State in 1988 during his first full-time coaching stint.
He returned home to Minden in July after being named to the head coach postion.
He said the most exciting to Bailey is the opportunity to have a lasting impact on the lives of young men and women in his hometown.
The Minden Lions Club meets at noon on Thursdays at the American Legion Hall on Pine Street.
