The homegoing celebration for Sammy Seamster, Sr. will be held at St. Rest Baptist Church on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 10 a.m. The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Sammy was a long-time Minden resident, who gained fame at Minden High and LSU as a running back. A talented athlete, Seamster excelled in track and field, basketball and football. Seamster was the 1986 Louisiana Sports Writers Association state player of the year and still holds many Minden High football records. Among these are: Rushing yards (5003), yards per game (141.7), rushing TDs (61) and single game touchdown record (5).
Sammy was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Seamster; brother, Johnny Mims, Jr. (Sherita), and grandfathers Willie Mims and Floyd Seamster.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Temeka Seamster of Haughton, LA; 2 sons Sammy Seamster, Jr. (Suretha) of Chatanooga, TN and Ethan Wilmer of Haughton, LA; 1 daughter Mya Seamster of Minden, LA; 1 grandchild My’Kenzie Seamster; father Johnny Ray Mims, Sr. of Minden, LA; 2 grandmothers Maggie Banks and Ella Wee Mims of Minden, LA; 1 brother Byron Seamster of Minden, LA; 3 sisters Alexis Mims- Slaughter (Lester) of Homer, LA; Shequita Kennon and Chandrika Myles of Minden, LA, and a host of aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
